Caxton's publishing page names Spark Media as the advertising and media-solutions company that represents its local newspapers. Checked 14 October 2026.
Sources, verification and coverage limits
This is a researched inventory, not a claim of exhaustiveness. South Africa’s print market changes frequently; titles merge, pause editions, change owners or move to digital-only distribution.
Inclusion rule
A publication is included as active when a current publisher portfolio, advertising portfolio, official title site with current print evidence, or a current printed edition supports operation. A functioning news website alone is not treated as proof of print publication.
Official logo policy
116 listings currently display a masthead or title-family mark retrieved from the publication’s official website or its publisher’s official portfolio. Assets are stored locally for performance and reliability, and the source page is disclosed on each publication profile. When a title-specific official asset cannot be verified, the interface says “Logo pending verification” and uses a neutral typographic fallback. We do not recreate, trace or infer logos. Publication names and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners; display does not imply endorsement.
Print orders, telephone numbers and rate cards
Publication profiles carry extra print-media data only where the publisher, or the company that sells its advertising, publishes it:
- Print order for 123 of 175 titles, transcribed row by row from the Caxton Local Media publications table (opens in a new tab). A print order is the number of copies printed; it is not audited circulation or readership. Caxton describes its community papers as free-subscription.
- Telephone numbers for 137 titles: the branch number Caxton lists per title, or the advertising sales switchboard published by the sales house. Company lines only — no personal or mobile numbers are listed.
- Advertising sales desk identified for 174 titles, and official rate cards, media kits or readership summaries linked for 11 titles. AdvertiseHere never retypes prices from these documents; it links the publisher’s own file.
Consistency check: Caxton’s table prints regional totals that do not equal the sum of its own rows — Gauteng 1 305 720, KwaZulu-Natal 757 025 and Vaal Triangle 205 800 are 1 870, 200 and 5 000 copies higher than their rows. The directory uses the per-title rows only, and the build fails if a transcribed row changes. “Rising Sun East London” appears in the table under KwaZulu-Natal despite its name and is held out pending direct verification.

What confidence means
| Level | Evidence standard | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| High | Current publisher portfolio, current advertising portfolio or current print-edition imprint. | Suitable for shortlisting; still reconfirm dates, footprint, rates and availability. |
| Medium | Primary evidence exists but a field, edition or portfolio relationship needs clarification. | Use as a lead only; verify before any campaign decision. |

Known coverage gaps
- Independent community publishers not represented by the major groups may be missing.
- Some trade, association, faith, campus and custom magazines require direct publisher confirmation.
- Language and town footprints are simplified where a publisher portfolio does not expose edition-level detail.
- Audited circulation and readership figures are omitted unless the publisher publishes them for a current period; publisher-stated print orders are shown where available and labelled as such.
- Rates, deadlines and print orders can change between verification and enquiry.
Corrections
Publishers should provide a current masthead or edition, ownership details, frequency, distribution footprint, language and an official URL when requesting a correction. Send corrections to ads@advertisehere.co.za with the subject “Directory correction”.
